John and Deb Breda receive "Heart of the United Way" award.
The United Way honored John Breda, President & CEO of The Bank of Delmarva, and wife Deb with the "Heart of the United Way" award at its annual meeting in June, 2019.
The "Heart of the United Way" award is given to those that embody what it means to LIVE UNITED. John and Deb Co-chaired the United Way’s largest fundraiser in 2018: The Holiday Ball, and led the way to a record breaking year in fundraising and attendance.
The Bredas will continue to Co-chair this year’s annual Holiday Ball which will be called “The Diamond Celebration” in commemoration of the United Way’s 75th Anniversary.
Below is an excerpt from their recognition at the annual meeting:
The Heart of United Way award is bestowed upon one who embodies what it means to LIVE UNITED so our United Way and community can thrive. This year’s awardees are no strangers to our community and are heavily involved in multiple capacities to make an impact … including chairing United Way’s largest fundraiser, The Holiday Ball. As Event Co-Chairs in 2018, and again for this year, this couple went above and beyond to not only ensure the Holiday Ball was truly the “Event of the Year” … but led the way to an exciting record-breaker in fundraising and attendance!
They poured their time, energy and passion into leading a large Committee of 40 community leaders to ensure the event’s success in so many ways … from Deb’s true and wonderful gift in always providing moving words of encouragement at meetings to make this the best Holiday Ball yet, to them implementing successful ideas like sponsored gift baskets for the auction, to donating generously through a corporate sponsorship and securing multiple silent and live auction items … including a Superbowl Party for 25 they donated and put-on themselves! … to securing new sponsors and supporters … to all of the prep and the night’s logistics and ensuring it was a hit … to them putting on quite the Committee Appreciation Party in which John home-cooked all of the amazing food … and so, so much more.
In addition, we cannot thank them enough for all they do for the Lower Eastern Shore with serving on multiple committees and being engaged in various endeavors … plus a generous workplace campaign through the Bank of Delmarva in which John is the President and CEO … yes, these two are quite the "busy bees," but they know the importance of making time to create a positive impact in our community. They are the definition of true leaders and we are honored they will continue to Co-Chair the 17th Annual Holiday Ball … which will be called “The Diamond Celebration” in commemoration of United Way’s 75th Anniversary.
